What to use

A wood fire always makes a better fire. And if it is a braai fire its about the flavours you will never get on gas or charcoal. Heavy, dense hardwoods like kameeldoring, mopane burn to give one the perfect embers. Whereas light woods dont make coals you want. Yet whilst hardwoods are avaiable one needs to consider firstly the fact that they are getting scarcer and secondly there is both the material as well as the environmental cost of transporting the wood from one side of the country to the other.

It makes so much more sense to use whatever wood is locally available and that we are not destroying everything we value.

For the Braai:
Kameeldoring, Mopani & Sekelbos

In a Pizza Oven
Blue Gum (Bloekom)

The Fireplace:
Blue Gum (Bloekom)
Black Wattle (Soft wood, easy to light)
